Departing from Porto Torres, we will drive to Capo Caccia, a majestic hill which offers a stunning view of the Alghero Gulf, as well as an interesting natural park, that we will reach in about an hour .
The “Nuraghe” are characteristic of this area, and these unique, megalithic constructions are the largest and best preserved in Europe, and they are regarded as distinctive of Sardinia. During the shore excursions, it will be very interesting to discover the different uses to which they were allocated. It is assumed that they could be used as religious temples, lodgings for the population, military forts, meeting rooms for heads or a combination of these purposes.
Our excursion will continue to Alghero, a beautiful city of Catalan origin, where we will arrive in about 50 minutes. The Alguer (as it is called in Catalan) is also known as Barceloneta, as Catalan is spoken by over 20% of the population. Before ending the shore excursions, we will walk through the streets, and we will admire the ancient towers, bastions, the Cathedral of St. Mary the Immaculate, with its Gothic tower and the church of St. Francis, with its large cloister.
