Oviedo and Gijón Shore Excursion: This shore excursion in Gijon and Oviedo takes you to the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain. From the port of Gijón we will drive to Oviedo, where our shore excursion begins exploring the Baroque buildings and the medieval churches in the city: in particular, the gothic Cathedral of San Salvador, where is preserved the Sudarium of Oviedo - the canvas dating from the seventh century, according to tradition, wrapped the head of Christ after his death - and the church of San Julián de los Prados, built in the ninth century, perfectly preserved over the centuries. Finally, we will also see the Foncalada, a fountain of the ninth century, the only civil construction pre-Romanesque art in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Then we will return in Gijón, where we will visit the old town "Cimadevilla" that separates the littoral zone into two parts: the beach of San Lorenzo and Poniente. We will visit the Plaza Mayor, the Town Hall, the sculpture "In Praise of the horizon” and the Hill of St. Catherine.
At the end of the shore excursion, we will come back to the port by bus for boarding.
